When to go to Llŷn Peninsula (Penrhyn Llŷn)

May to September; June and September are quieter than the school holidays.

The peninsula is mild and breezy, with less rain than the mountains inland. Boat trips and many cafés are seasonal.

Season by season

Spring (March–May)

Gorse in bloom, seabirds nesting and quiet coast paths. Bardsey boats begin in spring.

Summer (June–August)

Warmest weather; sailing regattas in Abersoch and Pwllheli; the busiest roads and beaches.

Autumn (September–November)

Warm seas in September and empty beaches. Seal pups in the coves later in the season.

Winter (December–February)

Very quiet and windy; many businesses close. Clear nights bring superb stars.

Approximate long-term averages, rounded; daylight is the approximate time between sunrise and sunset mid-month. Wales is mild but wet, and the mountains are colder, windier and wetter than the coast: pack layers in every season.
