Areas: where to base yourself
- Abersoch: the liveliest, with restaurants and beaches.
- Nefyn / Morfa Nefyn: for Porthdinllaen and the north coast.
- Aberdaron: remote and atmospheric; for Bardsey.
- Criccieth: a small Victorian resort with a castle and a station.
Food and drink
Local crab and lobster, Welsh lamb and ice cream. The pub on the beach at Porthdinllaen is an experience in itself; check its opening times, which vary by season.
Language
Welsh is the first language of many residents. A “bore da” (good morning) or “diolch” (thank you) is warmly received.
Practicalities
Shops, cash machines and fuel are scarce at the tip of the peninsula. Mobile signal can be patchy. In summer, book restaurants and accommodation well ahead.
Sample plans
One day
Porthdinllaen in the morning, lunch in Nefyn, then Aberdaron and the headland of Braich y Pwll looking out to Bardsey.
Two days
Add a Bardsey boat trip if the weather allows, or Criccieth Castle and the beaches of Abersoch.
