Conwy & Llandudno travel guide

Planning Conwy and Llandudno: where to stay, what to eat and how to split your time.

Areas: where to base yourself

  • Llandudno promenade: sea views and Victorian hotels; the tour departure point.
  • Llandudno town centre: shops, restaurants and guesthouses one street back.
  • Conwy: a few inns and guesthouses inside the walls; quieter in the evening.

Food and drink

Conwy is famous for its mussels, harvested from the estuary in season (roughly September to April). Look for fish and chips on the quay, local ales and, in Llandudno, traditional afternoon tea.

Money-saving tips

  • Walking the Conwy town walls is free.
  • Walking up the Great Orme costs nothing; the tram is worth it one way.
  • Combine Conwy Castle with other Cadw sites on a Cadw pass if you are touring.

Practicalities

Llandudno is busy with day-trippers on summer weekends and during events. Many hotels have sea-view rooms at a premium; ask when booking.
