Areas: where to base yourself
- St Davids: cathedral, island boats and the wildest cliffs.
- Newport and Fishguard: the quieter north coast and the Preseli Hills.
- Tenby and Saundersfoot: resort towns with the most hotels and restaurants.
- Dale and Marloes: remote villages near the Skomer boats.
Food and drink
Seafood is the highlight: crab, lobster and mackerel straight off the boats in Porthgain, Solva and Little Haven. Look for Pembrokeshire early potatoes in season and local ice cream.
Wildlife timing
- Puffins: about April to July.
- Grey seal pups: roughly August to November in coves around Ramsey and the north coast.
- Dolphins and porpoises: most of the year, best in calm summer seas.
Safety on the coast
Cliff paths are unfenced; keep to the path and away from edges in wind. Check tide times before walking on beaches or exploring caves, and swim at lifeguarded beaches in summer.
